Your tester costs money. Your van costs money. Your training costs money. Does every certificate you produce need another software bill attached to it?
Free electrical certificate software sounds useful. It also raises a fair question: how far can you actually get before somebody asks for your card?
Can you finish the report? Download the PDF? Come back next month and do another job? And if all of that is free, how does the business keep going?
Those are sensible questions. Here are our answers.
What does free electrical certificate software include here?
LedgerCert's Free plan includes all 32 certificate types in our catalogue, covering electrical, fire alarms, emergency lighting, EV charging, fire extinguishers and intruder alarms. That includes EICRs, Electrical Installation Certificates and Minor Works certificates.
You can record your findings, add observations and photos, include your signature and download the finished PDF. There is no certificate-count limit and no per-PDF charge.
Free to create. Free to download. Free to keep using.
No card required. No expiring trial.
If you only need certificates, you can keep using the Free plan. You do not have to buy Premium to complete another report.
What are the actual limits?
Free does not mean every feature in the business is unlimited. It means the certificate workflow is free. Here are the boundaries:
The Free plan, without the small print
- LedgerCert branding stays on the PDFs. Removing our branding is a Premium feature.
- Invoices and quotes have a separate allowance: three documents combined, in total. That is not three a month, and it is not a limit on your certificates.
- AI tools have five free uses shared across the text and photo tools. AI is optional; you can enter the certificate information yourself.
- Offline work needs preparation. Open and prepare the forms online before going offline, then reconnect to sync your work.
You should be able to understand a free plan before you build your working day around it. These limits are also listed on our Free and Premium page.
Then how does LedgerCert make money?
We sell optional tools for engineers who want to spend less time on the rest of the admin. Premium costs £8.99 a month or £89.90 a year.
It adds unlimited invoices and quotes, PDFs without LedgerCert branding, branded document emails to clients, delivery tracking, optional invoice reminders, saved phrases and a second business profile. It also includes 25 AI credits each month; different AI tools use different numbers of credits.
The question is whether those extras are useful to your business. An engineer who regularly sends quotes and chases invoices may value them. Someone who only wants to produce certificates may be perfectly happy on Free.
That is the business model. Certificates stay free. Premium has to earn its place by helping with the work around them.
Show me what comes out
Fair enough. Here is an example page from a LedgerCert EICR, using sample details. You can inspect the layout before creating an account.
SAMPLEThe software helps you record and present your work. The inspection, test results, observations and sign-off remain your responsibility. A polished PDF cannot make an unchecked report correct, and AI suggestions still need your review.
Try one certificate before changing your routine
You do not need to move your whole business across to find out whether LedgerCert suits you.
- Create a free account and choose the certificate appropriate to your work.
- Enter your findings, add the relevant details and review the report before signing.
- Download the PDF. Check that it contains what you need and that the workflow fits the way you work.
If you would like a walk-through first, our EICR guide explains the process. You can also contact us if something about the plan is unclear.
Your next job is a better test of certificate software than a feature list. Start with one report and judge the result.
